Exams

Periodically, BDA will enter students for an examination session ahead of their next grade.

Classes all move up together, and students can chose to do an exam, a class award, or neither.

An example letter is provided below detailing the different choices at Primary level. (For age requirements see the RAD website)

Once the exam dates are confirmed they cannot be changed and you may need to take students out of school. The exam day is typically run at the District Scout HQ.

You should receive a personal letter with details about times, and a more general letter detailing the things you will need to bring with you.

The latter is also provided below.

Based in St Albans, (see VENUES) Brewer Dance Academy, or BDA for short, started life as the Stephanie Ledger School of Dancing, established by former examiner Stephanie Ledger in 1972.

The school is now run by lifetime member and official lifetime registered teacher with the Royal Academy of Dance, Mrs Helen Brewer, who has been principal of the school since 2014.

Students gather around the piano. Brewer Dance Academy runs ballet lessons with live music.

Our school welcomes children from age 3 upwards and in term time we are open six days a week.

 (See TIMETABLE).

We believe live music is vital for developing musicality in young dancers and are proud to employ highly qualified pianists in most of our ballet classes.

Read some feedback from our students and their families here.

Ballet lessons for all genders and ages in St Albans include barre work.

All our ballet students can choose to be entered into

Royal Academy of Dance exams.

These are a fantastic way to mark progress, and there are other benefits too. For example, from Grade 6 upwards students can earn UCAS points along with their exam certificate, and success at Intermediate level can be the first step towards becoming a dance teacher.

Students in tutus. Brewer Dance Academy St Albans also runs performance workshops.

Above all, Brewer Dance Academy values a love of dance. We have previously run musical theatre classes, a choreography club, several successful performance workshops, and currently offer an excellent contemporary/body conditioning class.

Whether you are looking for

pre-school classes or vocational level ballet we have a class for you.

We hope you can join us!
