Dance can be a rewarding hobby, with Ballet classes used as a way to build friendships, get fit, and have fun, but a career in dance is more possible than you might think. Whether you are interested in performing, teaching, or something else, Brewer Dance Academy can help!
Below are some of the opportunities our school has experience supporting.
If you are already a teacher/pianist and looking for work please email principal@brewerdanceademy.com.
Whether a student is 8 or 18, applying for and attending auditions can be an overwhelming process. Performance opportunities, associate schemes, summer schools, and full-time vocational education can have different application requirements, but BDA has experience with them all. If you or a young dancer you know is keen to start auditioning, then please let us know by emailing principal@brewerdanceacademy.com.
There are three key things we offer, all of which may be of assistance:
Royal Academy of Dance exams are accredited qualifications.
Grades 6, 7, and 8, Intermediate and Advanced Foundation are RQF Level 3, and a pass or higher can be allocated UCAS points.
We offer training in these upper and vocational levels, and can currently run exams up to Grade 8 at our venues. Entry for a vocational exam such as Intermediate will involve travel to either an allied school outside of St Albans or the Royal Academy of Dance Headquarters, something that usually only happens after at least two years of training at this level.
BDA has plenty of experience in preparing students for this, and our vocational level classes are invite only to reflect a different level of commitment. However, we will seriously consider any keen student, so please email principal@brewerdanceacademy.com if you want to know more about our current vocational options.
Some senior students (Grade 4+) may be keen to gain skills associated with teaching by assisting in our most junior classes.
Assistants facilitate the smooth running of classes by taking registers, preparing props, demonstrating steps, encouraging concentration, and giving individual attention to students who require it. They will never be required to teach on their own, and classes are always well supervised.
These opportunities are highly sought after, and require students with a good working knowledge of the basics of ballet, and a proactive and friendly approach.
Please email principal@brewerdanceacademy.com if you would like to put your name forward as a possible candidate.
Brewer Dance Academy teacher Ms Catherine Cole started out as a student of the school. Her enthusiasm for assistant work grew into a passion for dance and after completing her Intermediate exam she qualified to enrol on one of the Royal Academy of Dance’s distance learning programmes. With the mentorship of Mrs Brewer, who had previously supported other prospective teachers on the same programme, Catherine quickly progressed and was awarded registered teacher status, going on to teach Ballet internationally. If this story inspires you, and you want to know if it is possible for you, please email principal@brewerdanceacademy.com.
